Variations Around the Evidence

In our contemporary culture, the immediacy of information is more important than the veracity of that information itself. Paradoxically, countless images instantly monitor real-world contexts, showing, for example, evidence related to health, safety, weather, or traffic. A medical scanner image or a video of a traffic accident are indisputable evidence, while thousands of images of war and destruction seem to belong to the realm of ideological fiction, where everything can be questioned and even its evidence denied. The audiovisual document is composed of several scenes, each corresponding to a different performative proposal, in which the moving body simultaneously describes fragility and empowerment. This work proposes a departure from the filmic narrative itself, questioning its very construction at every moment—a calm reflection between immediate perception and the temporal sediment of reason.

Dragging a stone into the future

In rural areas, it was a widespread tradition to use empty flour or potato sacks on one’s head to protect oneself from coal dust or storms. In this practice, the empty sack on the head was used to drag a stone, projecting its sound forward. Today, with science and artificial intelligence, we believe we can anticipate problems and solve them before they occur, but problems aren’t in the future; they haunt the present, carrying the full weight of the past.

Josu Rekalde Izagirre is a Basque artist who creates multidisciplinary works combining experimental video and sculptural installations with new technologies. His themes relate to the individual and collective consciousness. His work began in the 1980s and has achieved international recognition with exhibitions both in Spain and abroad. Until 2020, he combined his artistic practice with his teaching position as a professor in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).

His works are a space for experimentation and establishing relationships between art, science, and technology. He avoids imitation that reproduces a model according to classical canons of beauty and proportion, creating new experiences where sensory perception generates new meanings for the individual (both physical and psycho-emotional). Rekalde uses technology to create new models for understanding the world, sometimes questioning sight as the primary channel through which these representations reach us.

Description | “I am walking through the narrow streets of Amsterdam early in the morning, someone is following me, a sense of vertigo is produced by the single shot motion of walking; at the end of the walk, the camera zooms in, as I struggle with the key in the door, eventually I turn around and say fuck you !”

Deej Fabyc works with performance, installation, photography and video, addressing the psychological dimensions of trauma through wicked embodied mapping of narratives of awkwardness, neurodiversity, ageing, loss, mental health and chronic illness. Fabyc has performed in museums, nightclubs and the street internationally since the 1980s, including Documenta with Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía Madrid, and the 13th UP-ON International Live Art Festival, Chengdu (2025). Recent work includes Passing Point with Rachel Macmanus and the Sofia Underground Festival (2026).

A highly collaborative artist, Fabyc has founded several projects including JILLPOSTERS and Elastic Residence London, and in 2024 co-founded CERBERUS with Rachel Macmanus and Olivia Hassett. They are CEO and founder of Live Art Ireland, which they established in 2020, and have taught fine art and performance for over twenty years, including at London Metropolitan University. Australian, born in London, Fabyc now lives in North Tipperary, Ireland.

A live performance exploring re-wilding, collective movement, and alternative relationships to public space. Bound together by rope, the agents of dispersal move through the space as a single unruly body. Engaging with objects that evoke labour, care, and resistance, the performers appear as anonymous wanderers, part pilgrim, part folk apparition, part outlaw.

As they travel, traces are left behind, transforming the act of movement into one of dispersal and possibility. The work examines the tension between individual freedom and collective action, considering how mutual dependence can generate new forms of agency and care.

Blending ritual, mischief, and ecological intervention, the performance invites audiences to consider public space as a site of shared responsibility and future growth. Elements of the work circulate beyond the performance itself, extending its gestures of care and dispersal into other hands and places. Here, the rogue acts as both disruptor and catalyst, opening space for unexpected flourishing.

Mná Rógaire is a Northwest-based collective comprising Samantha O’Reilly, Laura Grisard, and Rebecca Devins. Working across performance, installation, and moving image, their practice is grounded in intuitive methodologies, embodied knowledge, and collective action. Featured in VAN’s DIY and Collectives, they investigate socio-political injustices through anarchic feminism, ecological care, and resistance. Gaeilge serves as both material and method of resistance in their work, challenging cultural erasure and asserting alternative ways of knowing. Their practice positions care as rebellion, disruption as regeneration, and the body as a site of change.

Through DIY strategies, Mná Rógaire fosters participation, prioritising process, transformation, and collective agency. They explore cycles of decay and renewal while questioning spectatorship and inviting audience complicity. Their work cultivates spaces for collective reflection, dialogue, and social transformation. Participation within EORNA, by Sandra Corrigan Breathnach, together with solo performances as part of the wider event, The Model, Sligo (2025). No More Legs in the Sky

This performance uses a text I wrote several years ago describing the actions of a life model. It presents words to describe physical action as opposed to the traditional image making of a life drawing sessions. The repeated recitation of the text will be combined with physical action. The mutual effect of text upon action and vice versa will create an ongoing, continuous feedback loop. As the text informs my physical and psychological actions, those very actions—speaking, moving —reshape the ongoing recitation of the text.

Fergus Byrne is a multidisciplinary artist.

He studied Fine Art in NCAD in the 90s. In 2003 he completed an MA in Contemporary Performance Practice at Hull University. He has taught life drawing for many years, which informed his performance practice. Since 2017 he has been a tour guide in the National Gallery of Ireland, and is now a member of Artists’ Panel for practical workshops with the gallery. His artistic practice involves drawing, sculpture and performance. He is a core member of Contact Improvisation Ireland that organises Contact Improvisation dance. His principal movement training has been in the martial art jujitsu, which influences his performance. The movement training of Body Weather has also been a great influence.

Recent exhibitions/performances are Kilkenny Portrait Show 2026, Earth Rising, IMMA and Re-Rooting Tallaght, both in 2024. His writing was published in RIAP, Art Action 1998- 2018, Vol 3.

A project created by two artists whose practice explores immersion, experience and strangeness.

Raquel Angulo studied art in Bilbao and works interdisciplinary between image, photography and experimental video through “letting yourself go”. Their practice arises from decontextualization and observation of the environment. Angulo’s  use of the body motion camera allows her to capture reality from elsewhere.

3element133 is a sound artist. Self-taught, he explores the possibilities of electronic music as an extension of his curiosity and sensitivity. Influenced by techno culture and his experience in Edinburgh and rural experiences, his sound builds soundscapes and atmospheres from his intuition.

Together they generate spaces where sound and image dialogue, altering perception and proposing new ways of inhabiting the unusual. This video is a small journey back. From the euphoria of the unknown, to the peace of the known.

This interdisciplinary project combines science and art through scientific images of arteries affected by different types of damage. Using these photographs as a starting point, new visual works and illustrations have been created to highlight and reinterpret the data and indicators they reveal, transforming them into an immersive audiovisual experience. The project explores the dialogue between art and science, emphasizing the aesthetic potential of scientific imagery and demonstrating how both disciplines can enrich one another. While preserving the original scientific information, the visual reinterpretations expand its meaning by introducing artistic, emotional, and sensory dimensions. By revealing what is usually hidden from view, the work invites reflection on the relationship between knowledge, perception, and experience. Its central message is that science is deeply connected to the sensory world, and that art can make scientific knowledge more accessible, engaging, and meaningful to broader audiences through an interdisciplinary approach.

Núria Nora Matos is a visual artist and Master’s student at the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao. Matos’s practice is rooted in the intersection of art and science, with a particular focus on technological arts and their potential to expand perception and generate new forms of knowledge. Working through installations, video essays, and hybrid visual forms, she explores the relationships between memory, the body, technology, time, and emotion. Her work investigates how organic and digital processes intertwine, creating visual environments where images, sounds, and textures function as fragments of a living archive. Rather than presenting fixed meanings, my projects open spaces for reflection on perception, technological mediation, and the dialogue between the ephemeral and the enduring. Video plays a central role in my practice, connecting intimate bodily experiences with broader technological horizons. Through this approach, Matos invite viewers to engage with the work as an evolving field of questions, sensations, and possibilities.

Agurrak | Txema Agiriano and Pilar Baizán

Agurrak (Regards) is a performance and video, based on a popular Basque dance, solemn and elegant, played with a traditional 3 holes flute and a tambourine.

Usually it is performed as a tribute or a way of honoring prominent figures and also used in formal events in the Basque Country: weddings, openings, congresses, functions, etc.

Pilar Baizán is an artist based in Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain). She has shown her work in museums, festivals and venues such as: ISSUE Project Room (New York), Guggenheim (Bilbao), SONAR (Barcelona),ExperimentaClub (Madrid), Kaleidoskop Theatre (Copenhagen), Miscelänea (Barcelona), DT Espacio Escénico (Madrid), Night of the Arts (Helsinki), ZSenne art lab (Brussels), 4bid Gallery (Amsterdam), Verge Gallery (Sydney).

Txema Agiriano is a curator, artist and cultural manager based in Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain). Visiting professor at the Royal College of Art (UK), the Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan (Morocco), the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country (Spain) and the University of Art and Design in Linz (Austria).
