As part of Christine Mackey’s Solo Exhibition
Seeking To Walk Beautifully On The Earth
Christine Mackey kindly invited six artists to work as artists in residence, as part of her solo exhibition; Seeking to walk beautifully on the earth, which opened on Saturday the 1st of February and ran from Tuesday the 4th February – Saturday 22nd of March 2025.
The exhibition was augmented by a unique creative engagement artist residency programme, situating a different artist each week in a dedicated gallery space within The Model, Sligo. Sandra Corrigan Breathnach, was the first artist in residence situated within the artist residency programme, curated by Christine Mackey as part of her solo exhibition, Seeking to walk beautifully on the earth, at The Model, Sligo.
Corrigan Breathnach was based within the East Gallery space, where she hosted a performance art workshop which ran from Wednesday the 5th to the 8th of February. This workshop explored embodied practice, together with an exploration of the metaphysical and how the possibility of both, can paradoxically be experienced simultaneously within performance, together with consideration of the transformative nature of objects through performance actions.
Corrigan Breathnach’s residency culminated in the performance art event Eorna, held on Saturday the 8th of February in the East Gallery, which included its namesake performance, Eorna, a new performance by Corrigan Breathnach. This event and performance was specifically designed by Corrigan Breathnach for Mackey’s exhibition, Seeking to walk beautifully on the earth, at The Model, Sligo, to incorporate the workshop participants. The event also included workshop outcome participant performances, offering a space for the participants to create solo performances and an exciting opportunity for the public to view and engage with live contemporary Irish performance practice.
Workshop participation was by invitation and through an open call in conjunction with The Model. The selected workshop participants were, Hilary Gilligan, Sarah Riseborough, Rob Ireson, Emily Lohan, Laura Grisard, Rebecca Christina Devins, Samantha O’Reilly, Maria May and Bella Yang.
